Niyazi Kızılyürek

He was born in 1959 in the village of Bodamya in Cyprus. He completed his high school education in Cyprus and studied at the University of Bremen in Germany. He prepared his doctoral thesis on the Cyprus problem at the same university. In 1995, he started working at the University of Cyprus (Southern Cyprus). Prof. Dr. Kızılyürek, who served as the head of the Department of Turkology and dean of the Faculty of Humanities, became the first Turkish Cypriot elected to the European Parliament in 2019. In addition to the books and articles he has published in various languages, he prepared the Cyprus documentary "Our Wall" with Panikos Chrysantos and was awarded the Abdi İpekçi Award in 1997.
