Mümtaz'er Türköne
Born in 1956 in Istanbul, he graduated from the Administrative Department of Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences in 1978. He received his master's degree from the same faculty in 1986 and his doctorate in 1990. In 1993, he became an associate professor. Before 1980, Türköne, who was known for his nationalist views, was a columnist for Zaman newspaper. After the trustee appointed to Zaman newspaper, he started writing columns for the newly launched newspaper Yarına Bakış. After the 1980 military coup, Türköne was arrested and imprisoned in Ankara Mamak Prison, where he was subjected to severe torture. On July 15, 2016, a detention warrant was issued against him as part of the investigation into the military coup attempt and he was arrested.
